Baby Gifts

I was thrilled this morning when Tim found a package on our front stoop and it turned out to be our first gift from our registry! We received from his Aunt Linda a bouncey seat. I, of course, immediately put it together and it has been so much fun to see it sitting in our living room. Thank you, Linda!

Last weekend, our baby girl got a couple of other gifts as well. Our friend Stephen brought a beautiful blanket that his mom had knitted together along with a pair of pink booties. I know she'll get a lot of use out of those booties! I can't wait to put them on her cute little feet! And she's going to love the feel of the blanket. Stephen gave her a leather box that she can collect mementos in. I already have a few cards to put in it and I know she'll have lots of little treasures she'll collect as she grows up so the box will be the perfect place to store them. Thank you to the Crimmins family!

About the baby...

She seems to be doing well. All her measurements are on target and her heart rate is where it should be in the 140's. She loves to do somersaults, although she is starting to run out of room for this activity. She loves it when her daddy kisses her good-bye in the morning. She enjoys it when we read her stories or talk to her. She gets very active when mama has chocolate or sweet tea. She also gets very active when I lay down at night and doesn't like it when I change positions. Since she is a little bigger now, I can feel it when she sinks real low in my abdomen which causes me a great deal of discomfort and makes it hard to breathe so I poke at her until she moves. Tim and I can now feel where she is located, most of the time, and can even see where she is located.

I have gained around 20 pounds now. The weight has been coming on a little slower lately but I'm expecting it to pick up soon since the baby will start really putting on a lot of weight. I've been testing my blood sugar regularly since getting my supplies on Monday and I am testing well. I have also been sleeping much better lately and I am looking forward to sleeping in this weekend and having the energy I need to get a few things done around the house and to do some shopping for our upcoming trip next week. I am really hoping to be able to go to Dothan for the day with my mom next Saturday for my cousin's baby shower.

I will post a baby bump picture next. Stay tuned!

How's the pregnant lady?!

I had my gestational diabetes class yesterday and it went pretty well. I got a great machine, the Freestyle Lite, and it doesn't hurt nearly as much as the one at the doctor's office. My fingers were bruised by the machine in the lab. The diet is very doable and isn't too far of a stretch from what I already eat. I'm hoping I'll be able to manage this with my diet.

I think I have finally figured out how to sleep better. While in North Carolina, Tim and I were both having a hard time sleeping on the hotel's mattress. Tim has been trying to talk me into getting a foam mattress topper because he knows how hard it has been for me to sleep lately. I gave in and we went to Wal-Mart and picked one up. We both slept better that night. I also discovered after coming home that by propping my head up with a couple of pillows, taking two Tylenol and sleeping on the mattress topper, I could get a good night's rest. I have been doing so much better since discovering this magic combination.

Well, I am finally in my Third Trimester!!! Time is flying by! Tim and I are really looking forward to meeting our baby girl. There's a lot to get done, though, before she arrives. We still have to paint her furniture and build a dresser (by we I mean Tim). There are also a few things around the house that still need to get organized. I think we've made good progress, though. My baby shower is coming up in a couple of weeks and I'm really looking forward to that.

Here's my 28 week baby bump!

We have guests this weekend. Our friends Dave and Stephen are in town. Dave starts a new job in Indiana in a few weeks so he wanted to come over for a visit before moving so far away. We'll post again soon!

Easter weekend

Thursday night we started our trip to North Carolina and stopped for the night in Georgia just shy of the South Carolina border. As it turned out, this was a great decision as bad weather had moved into Alabama overnight. It was also nice because we were well rested when we arrived in Hendersonville Friday morning. We stayed at the Mill House Lodge which I highly recommend to anyone. The rates are really cheap. The location is fantastic. The rooms are nice and most come with a kitchen.

Tim and I dropped our stuff off and then headed into town for a bite to eat. We then went downtown and strolled around looking into the shops. I love Hendersonville! I then called my Uncle Charlie to see when we might be able to catch up with them for a visit. We went up to their house a few hours later where I got to see my cousin Angela for the first time since October when we helped her leave the hospital and board a plane for North Carolina where she would continue her rehabilitation. She looked amazing and gorgeous as always. She has made such tremendous progress the last 6 months. And the most beautiful thing about her is her positive attitude. Angela has always been one of those people who doesn't see hurdles. She just sets her mind to something and makes it happen. It was wonderful to get to visit with her and my Uncle Charlie and Mary Wall and Courtney and all the dogs. We got to see Mary Wall's daughter, Mair on our last day right before we left and we got to meet her wife Nicole, as well. I am so glad we got up there before the baby was born!

Here are the pictures from that weekend:

Aren't we cute?!

Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday weekend we had the pleasure of the company of Tim's mom and our niece Katherine. Tim put his mom to work Saturday morning raking leaves while Katherine and I cleaned windows. Around 10:30 I decided it was time for some shopping and we left Tim to finish up. : ) Us ladies went back to the consignment sale I mentioned in a previous post and bought a lot more clothes for our new baby girl and we bought some clothes for our oldest baby girl as well, Katherine. Since it was the last day of the sale, a lot of clothes were half off. It was really hard to say no to a lot of the clothes since they were only a $1 so I finally just had to walk away. The new baby girl should now be set for clothes until she is about 6 months old.

We got went back to the house and ate some lunch and then Tim put us to work again. This time we sanded baby furniture to get it ready for painting. Afterwards, we went out to eat at our favorite Italian restaurant and had enough left over to enjoy a fabulous lunch the next day. Sunday we attended services at the local CMA church. We then spent the afternoon visiting and playing games. I was rather worn out and didn't have the energy for much else. I am so glad they came over for the weekend. We had a really good time.

Here are some pictures from that weekend. I have to say I haven't been doing a very good job of taking pictures of our visitors. I completely forgot to get a picture of my cousin Courtney and her family when they visited and I didn't get one of Katherine during this visit. Maybe Mrs. Thomas will send me some.

Mrs. Thomas brought us an Easter basket full of goodies.
It included a few things for the baby, as well. Thank you Mrs. Thomas!

Don't that beat all...

I had my dreaded glucose tolerance test yesterday and I failed it so I got to go back to the doctor's office today for a more extensive test which I also failed. What does this mean? I have gestational diabetes. No one seems that concerned about it, though. The doctor said I'll just have to eat a low-carb diet and monitor my sugar levels. I was also referred to a dietician. She only does classes on Fridays and this week she changed it to this afternoon and I didn't find that out until it was too late to attend. I'll have to wait until next Friday to get my testing machine and find out what the heck it is I'm supposed to be eating now. In the meantime, I'll just worry about everything I eat. And now, I'm just waiting for my blood sugar level to return to normal so my head will quit spinning.

Consignment Sale

I experienced my first consignment sale this week. I met our friend Courtney at the Kids Market consignment sale Monday night and couldn't believe the amount of merchandise. There are several consignment sales that happen in Birmingham throughout the year. Kids Market is right down the road and occurs in the Spring and Fall for a week. It is a great opportunity for people to sell all the stuff their children no longer need without having to have their own yard sale.

Courtney helped me pick out a lot of cute clothes. I got 4 pairs of shorts, 5 pairs of pants, 2 outfits, 1 dress, 1 skort, and 1 totally adorable denim jacket for $18. Notice the variety of colors. I can buy things that aren't purple!

Tim's mom and Katherine will be here today and I think we may go check out the sale's 50% off day tomorrow.
